Whether you are interviewing medical professionals on the phone or in person, you must prepare your questions in advance. It is not inappropriate to have a list of questions in front of you while you are interviewing medical professionals and a notepad nearby to write down the answers. The more prepared you are, the easier it is for you to discern if this medical candidate is a good fit for your organization.

Review the CV/Resume. You should look at more than their job gaps and experience when reviewing their CV/Resume and interviewing medical professionals. A CV/Resume is meant to be a synopsis of what the candidates qualifications are, and you can glean a tremendous amount of insight. For example, you may find that the candidate has extensive connections in a marketplace that you are looking to expand into.

Find a Relationship. With the CV/Resume in front of you, it is easy to evaluate if the candidate knows of someone that you may know of as well. This will instantly build rapport when interviewing medical professionals and make the interview process easier for everyone involved. A healthcare candidate will be more interested in your company if you can establish a bond with him or her from the beginning.

Prepare your questions. Once you have reviewed the CV/Resume and you have tried to establish a "tie" with your organization, you need to build questions around his or her experience. The questions should be specific to their profession, specialty, and background. Instead of asking general questions that do not really reveal much about their experience, you should ask specific questions that will ensure that the candidate is a logical fit with your organization. General questions rarely reveal anything to the interviewer (especially on the phone), and should be used only for lower level positions that do not require advanced training, certifications, registrations, or ongoing education.
